The Sacred Within and Without

Tonight Gallery Edit hosted Sacré, an exploration by two artists of the sacred in contemporary life. Lisl Ruckert employs the halo of traditional Christian iconography to celebrate the inherent dignity and beauty of refugee women who are too often regarded as “other.” Meanwhile, Katy Pumphrey’s elemental, bubbling forms and pensive self portraits express a search for interior sanctity. Together, the two sets of work offer a profoundly hopeful look at what it means to find holiness in the intimate as well as the foreign.
